The legend of Vaishno Devi states that 700 years Vaishno Devi used to live and she was a ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. She also used to pray to Lord Rama and she had vowed to follow celibacy. A tantric or demon God, Bhairo Nath intended to know about the spirituality she had attained and also had his eyes on her and in his attempts to track her down he faced his death in the hands of Mata Vaishno Devi. In fact Goddesss Vaishno Devi is the creation of the three lords and was born with the name of Vaishnavi.

Journey to Vaishno Devi in Jammu

The journey for the pilgrims starts at Katra and pilgrims have to reach Darbar after covering 13 km on foot. Banganga is located just 1 km away from Katra and one comes across the holy cave of Adhkuwari after another 6 km. This is the cave where Mata Vaishno Devi meditated for 9 months. Getting a glimpse of the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is one very difficult as there are too many pilgrims waiting for Darshan.

In fact according to a common faith one can visit Vaishno Devi only when Mata Vaishno Devi calls them as they start walking, a supernatural power tends to draw them towards the shrine of the Mata. While inside the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi one can see three images of Mahakali, Maa Saraswati and Maha Lakshmi.
