Dalhousie was built in 1854 by the East India Company as a summertime resting place for its bureaucratic machineries. The name of this picturesque little town was derived from Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor-General of India. The town lies to the western fringes of the famous Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas.
