Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep – Introduction –

The islands, which comprise Lakshadweep, sparkle like bright green emeralds amidst the glittering blue waters of the sea. Changing colors of the turquoise blue sea waters encircle Lakshadweep. The diversified marine life along with the coral atolls, which feature a wide array of colors, are the primary attractions of this exotic beach destination in India.

Lakshadweep, created on historic volcanic formations, includes three reefs, five submerged banks and 12 atolls. The coral reefs anchor 36 islands, out of which 10 have human settlements. Some of these islands at Lakshadweep are Minicoy, Kadmat, Agatti, Androth, Chetlat, Bitra, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Kalpeni.

Kalpeni –

Kalpeni is one of the most beautiful islands of Lakshadweep and comprises the islets known as Pitti and Tilakkam as well as Cheriyam, a deserted island in the northern part of the region. A shallow but large lagoon borders all of these. The coral reef of Kalpeni has a distinctive feature – a big storm bank of coral deposits on the southeastern and eastern coasts.
